About the class

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE CLASS?

Explore the essence of improvisation, partnering principles and group work to train group listening and choice making. Experiencing meaningfulness instead of forcing the creation of meaning.

This professional dance class dives into partnering principles, combining elements of instant composition and group improvisation to create dynamic performative spaces. Starting with improvisation tools, the class explores experimental movement language that blends theatricality, time-warped flow, and a touch of the absurd, encouraging dancers to reflect their behavior in unexpected ways. Whether focusing on the technical aspects of partnering or adopting a more explorative, research-based approach, dancers will be challenged to expand their creative boundaries, drawing inspiration from both form and freedom.

Throughout the class, dancers will develop skills in timing, connection, and responsiveness, essential for professional-level partnering. The improvisation work is designed to foster collaboration and spark new ideas, offering a balance of structured technique and creative exploration.

Elkes classes open a place out of time. There is a connection to myself and something more than human (or maybe very human) that gives me a sense of belonging. Experiencing and accepting what is within me, surrounded by other bodies/creatures. Afterwards i feel fleshy/fluid/alive.

Hannah K.

In Elkes classes you will laugh, be challenged and probably do some weird stuff. You will not only work on your body but also on your mind, trying to step out of your patterns and instead of chasing past experience be present in the moment. In the improvisation at the end you'll experience a unique group interaction where a state of true improvising, relating and connecting with others and yourself may arise.
